Lingnan University – Learning Hub at M+ in The West Kowloon Cultural District

Prototypical Hybrid Learning at the heart of an artistic ambience.

Lingnan University (LU) is a liberal arts university in Hong Kong with the longest established tradition among the local institutions of higher education. The University’s history dates back to 1888, when the forerunner, the Christian College in China, was founded in Guangzhou, and to 1967, when the institution, as Lingnan College, was re-established in Hong Kong and renamed Lingnan University in 1999.

Located on the 12th and 13th floors of the M+ Tower at the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) in Hong Kong, the brand-new 20,000-square-foot Learning Hub includes classrooms, lecture halls, study rooms, offices for faculty and staff, studios, exhibition areas, teacher and student discussion spaces, as well as breakout areas for various activities such as social engagement and partnership events.

Principle One was engaged by LU to design and build the Audiovisual System for their new M+ Learning Hub. The goal of this project is two-folded: (1) Careful design for an intuitive, user-friendly solution that caters different users’ preferences, with minimal set up time before each class (2) Support remote monitoring and control for the IT operation team to access the system from LU main campus at Tuen Mun. Core solutions deployed by Principle One includes: Q-SYS AV-over-IP with control system, redundant Q-SYS core control system, Shure networked loudspeakers, AI-Tracking camera capturing lecturer, diverse microphone selections for different users and video wall processor with Picture-in-Picture function caters simultaneous display of both the camera feed and content sharing during class.

The project has completed successfully within a challenging timeline before kicking off the new academic year. Principle One ensuring deployed Audiovisual System continues to operate without interruption throughout its lifecycle by offering a five-years comprehensive maintenance support to LU, which includes preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and replacement where necessary to extend the solution lifecycle.
